Well it's finally here, Skateboarding And The City by Iain Borden, a completely reworked and revised release expanded from Iain's seminal book from 2001 Skateboarding Space And The City (SSATC).

This new book is essentially the culmination of 30 years work, that began with Iain's PHD thesis while a student in LA. This thesis eventually became SSATC, an academic text, but also one of, if not the most important and accurate documents of the culture and practice of skateboarding, and more specifically street skateboarding and its interaction with the urban environment.

In 2001 there was very little published academic work on the subject of skateboarding, but in 2019 we thankfully find ourselves in a very different place. This new book acknowledges and references this work, whilst recognising skateboarding as the very different culture that it has become. Touching on race, gender, diversity, the olympics and the global social impact we have made Iain has put together what is one of the most "complete" critiques of skateboarding to date. While at times SSATC was daunting and inpenetrable for many readers with no architectural or academic background, Skateboarding And The City is an instantly more accessible and approachable book, without dispensing entirely of the critical theory that made SSATC such an unparalleled volume.
